About This Show

He was a legendary, graying Roman superhero in love. She was a defiant,
seductive self-made myth and as entrancing as all of Egypt. He was
earth, she was fire. They fell in love at a critical time in history,
and a pivotal stage in their own lives — Antony was being called a
failed hero and Cleopatra a dimming star.

For the first time since 1986, Shakespeare & Company brings back one of
the Bard’s rarely done and perhaps most daring and challenging
masterpieces. Written at the peak of his career, and containing some of Shakespeare’s most assured and magnificent poetry, Antony and Cleopatra is rich with complex mature themes, visceral moments and gorgeous language. It is a compelling story of humanity made glorious by love and passion, yet flawed by pride, lust, vainglory, the fear of aging and the fleetingness of fame. Featuring Tina Packer as Cleopatra and Nigel Gore as Antony; Michael Hammond directs.

Prior to 8:00pm evening performances of Antony and Cleopatra, enjoy the Shakespeare & Company Prelude, featuring a variety of performances to help prepare audiences for the evening’s show.
