Zombies from the Beyond

BackStage Theatre Company presents the Chicago Premiere of Zombies from the Beyond, a musical by award winning writer / composer / lyricist James Valcq, directed by the company’s Associate Artistic Director, Megan Frei.

Affectionately parodying Cold War-era “invaders from outer space” B-movies while incorporating musical theatre conventions, Zombies from the Beyond brings 1955 Milwaukee to life as its inhabitants are invaded by Zombina (and the scintillating Zombettes). The show explores an era when entertainment allowed people’s fears to be played out in a safe, exaggerated realm. Combining BackStage Theatre Company’s passion for “big things in small spaces” and Valcq’s hilarious music & lyrics, this song and dance production transports audiences to a time of collective joy, a time that was itself exaggerated and not as it seemed, when the nation felt invincible and infallible.
