The recent election saw a record number of female MPs elected - 142 in total (up from 128). However, women still only make up 22% of MPs in the House of Commons. It is 92 years since women were first allowed to stand for Parliament and yet Britain still has one of the smallest percentages of women in Government in Europe. Why is this? The Women, Power and Politics Season seeks to ask questions, and look at the complexity of women and political power in the United Kingdom. Twelve playwrights have written a response to this issue through history to the present day. The plays are presented in two parts, Then and Now, and express a diversity of opinions, stories and perspectives. As part of the debate alongside this the Tricyce Cinema will focus on women in politics around the world, and the gallery will celebrate women in politics over the last 100 years. Now and Then perform in repertory, so please check the individual listings for performance schedules.
