About This Show

Before integration there were thriving segregated Black communities where the rich and poor were neighbors, coexisiting in harmony and sharing life’s lessons with one another. Out of those communities came Black-owned businesses, thriving social organizations and a unique entertainment culture. This culture was so exciting, so exhilarating and so fulfulling that it helped the Black community to survive the harsh realities of racism. The Way We Were tells the history of Black dance, film and music in a story that will delight, educate and inspire audiences- even as it urges them to reflect on the great accomplishments of Colored entertainers of the 20’s, 30’s and 40’s. This will be the World Premiere performance!
