About This Show

Yellow Taxi Productions in conjunction with the San Francisco Fringe Festival is presenting A Strange Black Passion — a new play written by Artistic Director Suzanne Delle.

The show follows the passionate love affair of the young poet DH Lawrence with the married mother of three Frieda Weekley from their meeting in 1912 until their marriage in 1914. As they develop a new form of writing together and travel Europe looking for a place that will welcome the unmarried lovers, Frieda pines for her children and Europe is a buzz with talk of war.

The feminist themes in A Strange Black Passion and true story of one of the greatest writers in the English language will engage San Francisco audiences. Characters such as Katherine Mansfield and John Middleton Murry will be recognizable along with the early writings of Lawrence that are referenced throughout the play.
