The Shape of Things maintains the erotic yet venomous vein of Neil LaBute’s prior work, focusing on the brutal inhumanity with which we treat our partners. In this distorted love story, a beautiful female artist remakes a hapless, infatuated young man. But in LaBute’s shocking ending, we see the hostile motivations behind the transformation. Whereas LaBute’s works generally show the romantic manipulations of male predators, this show explores the damage that can be done by a powerful woman.
