About This Show

Storybox is a 90 minute, one-act improv production for adult audiences, created and performed by an ensemble of improvisational storytellers. Its origins are inspired and influenced by Paul Sills’ Story Theater, the poetry and ritual of Japan’s Noh Theatre, Anne Bogart’s Viewpoints techniques, Del Close’s long-form tenets, and Joseph Campbell’s mythic psychology to forge together a single unscripted story from multiple narrations and sub-stories.

Using only wooden sticks, colored pieces of cloth, and a single audience suggestion, this highly talented ensemble of theatre artists creates an original story in front of your eyes. Utilizing movement, scene-work, and transformations to develop the arc of the story, they develop characters, themes, and scene structure into a performance featuring evocative improvised environments, imagery, and stage tableaux that brings the audience along on the main character’s epic and personal journey.
