About This Show

Victory Gardens Theater welcomes Rick Cleveland back to Chicago for a special sneak peek engagement of his one man show My Buddy Bill, prior to its national debut next Fall on Comedy Central.

Cleveland, recently Executive Producer and writer for the hit HBO original series Six Feet Under, will perform his comedic monologue about his unusual friendship with former U.S. President Bill Clinton three shows only.

In the spirit of Spalding Gray and Mark Twain’s Innocents Abroad, My Buddy Bill is a comic shaggy dog tale about a star-crossed friendship between a writer, the leader of the free world, and their two dogs. It starts innocently enough with a chance meeting in the Oval Office between Cleveland, then a writer for The West Wing, and the 42nd president of the United States. As Cleveland proceeds to chronicle their unusual and idiosyncratic relationship, audiences begin to wonder what is truth? What is fiction? Or is it something in between? Either way, My Buddy Bill,
Jury Award winner for Best One Person Show at the 2006 HBO-US Comedy Arts Festival, is “hilarious on the page and twice as funny on the stage,”
according to Six Feet Under creator Alan Ball, who calls Cleveland “Gen-X’s Mark Twain.”
