Chicago Shakespeare Theater’s 2004-2005 Series continues with Measure for Measure, William Shakespeare’s dark tale of power, politics, sex, and deception, directed by Artistic Director Barbara Gaines, 400 years after it was first staged in 1604.
Measure for Measure is set in Vienna, a city that has decayed into a corrupt labyrinth of sexual license, where lust and pleasure resist legislation. The Duke abdicates his responsibilities, and secretly observes as his moralizing deputy falls victim to his own demons-and to a young nun.
No Tuesday performances scheduled on 2/15, 2/22, 3/1, 3/8, 3/15.
No Wednesday 1:00 p.m. performance on 3/9.
