About This Show

Have you ever seen an orchestra improvise? The Hidden City Orchestra is a performance art ensemble surrounded by an improvising orchestra. For some pieces, they improvise to silent film or other light projections. Some pieces include dancers, installation artists or painters, performing what they do along with the music. Still other pieces include narrations, poetry, mime and acting troupes where the music provides soundscape.

Don’t miss the opportunity to see these talented people make one + one = three. The Hidden City Orchestra has, at its core, an ever-shifting ensemble of musicians (and even within that some ever-shifting instruments for some of the players: first a trumpet, now a flute…first a violin, now a viola…). On any given day the orchestra may consist of a lone keyboardist in the pit, or six, seven, more musicians. It is an improvisatory, egalitarian ensemble that defies genre (sticks and stones may make good beats but genres simply escape them).
