A festival new plays by modern German playwrights including The Frog Queen — An Anti Fairy Tale by Kerstin Specht, and Fireface by Marius Von Mayenburg.
Since debuting in 1998, Marius von Mayenburg’s combustible play documenting the ruin of a conventional nuclear family via incest, jealousy and murder, has swept Europe. Fireface offers a fast paced, sometimes funny and sometimes frightening look at one young man’s introduction into sexuality and social conformity.
Kerstin Specht’s play, The Frog Queen, is a refreshing take on western culture. A single mom raising two nightmare children (a daughter whose role model is Courtney Love and a 20 something son who won’t leave home or get a job) finds herself suddenly in the presence of her young, sexy prince charming. What happens to the kids when a mom follows her own passions instead of theirs? The results are a wild look at
our own modern lifestyle.
