Set at the Highway 57 service station and Double Cupp Diner in the rural south, Pump Boys and Dinettes is a musical look at Americana through the eyes of four gas station attendants and the Cupp sisters. Passing time by telling stories, cooking and enjoying home-style meals, the characters are both skilled and inventive musicians, transforming kitchen utensils into instruments by banging pots and pans with wooden spoons.
