About This Show

The Vienna Choir Boys present their Holiday Concert at the Stamford Center for the Arts, Palace Theatre. Conducted by Andy Icochea Icochea, the concert is scheduled to include spiritual music from Europe (Gregorian Chorale, Mozart, Mendelssohn) and the World (Uzbek, Peruvian, Indian Bhajan), Austrian folk songs (Johann Strauss, Jr.) and Christmas songs (“Adeste fideles,” “The First Nowell,” “Leise rieselt der Schnee” and “Joy to the World,” among others).

For want of a foundation charter, historians have settled on 1498 as the official foundation date of the Vienna Choir Boys. Until 1918, the choir sang exclusively for the court, at mass, at private concerts and functions and on state occasions. Today, over 100 choristers between the ages of 10 and 14 are divided into four touring choirs, presenting nearly 300 concerts and performances each year for almost half a million people. Together with members of the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra and the Vienna State Opera Chorus, the Vienna Choir Boys provide the music for the Sunday Mass in Vienna’s Imperial Chapel, as they have done since 1498.
