The Investigation

Between 1941 and 1945, up to two million people were exterminated in the Auschwitz concentration camp. 20 years later, a group of camp guards, doctors, and officials were brought to trial by Auschwitz survivors. German playwright Peter Weiss condensed the testimony of the accused and their accusers into a harrowing examination of complicity and responsibility. In The Investigation, the unspeakable is given voice and the audience bears witness to how genocide, so seemingly incomprehnsible, becomes chillingly possible.
