Plena Libre

Three time Grammy nominees, this 13-member band is Puerto Rico’s foremost exponent of plena, a traditional Puerto Rican rhythm and musical genre which emerged from the island’s African heritage. Combining percussion, horns and vocals, this joyous dance music has been given new light and form by Plena Libre’s exciting arrangements. Plena Libre captured Puerto Rico’s imagination and interest right from its inception in 1994, and the group’s appeal stems from its innovative interpretation of the plena genre.
