About This Show

The European Repertory Company, in association with Steppenwolf, presents Anton Chekhov’s The Duel. Adapted by ensemble member Frank Galati and directed by Luda Lopatina, the story revolves around Ivan, who lives in the Caucasus with his mistress, the wife of a much older man. Desperately bored and disheartened by his situation, he plots to return to St. Petersburg, leaving his mistress behind. Ivan bargains, lies, and steals in his futile attempts to escape, but his dishonesty and cowardice are exposed. In order to save his dignity, he engages in a duel.
