About This Show

Congo Square Theatre Company presents Seven Guitars, written by August Wilson, and directed by Derrick Sanders.

In the spring of 1948, seven people come together outside a Pittsburgh rooming house to celebrate the life and mourn the death of Floyd “Schoolboy” Barton, a blues guitarist on the cusp of stardom. The dreams and desperations of Schoolboy are brought to life in vivid detail through the stories, poetry, songs and humor of his friends, who ultimately discover the passions and spirit that live within each of them. Optimistic in its vision in the face of dashed hopes and dreams, Seven Guitars is the sixth chapter in Wilson’s chronicle of the African American experience in the twentieth century.
