About This Show

Laced with humor and poignant songs, Saint Joan of the Stockyards transforms Jeanne d’Arc, peasant girl from 15th century
France, into Joan Dark, member of a Salvation Army-like band in 20th-century
Chicago. Like her predecessor, Dark is a doomed martyr and an innocent in a
world of business deals, strike breakers and fat cats who fix prices, make
secret deals and squeeze the workers for every penny. Joan’s world spins
out of control when she makes the Windy City’s infamous stockyards her field of battle and clashes with Pierpoint Mauler, wheeling-dealing owner of a
meat-packing plant, over the heart of business and the soul of labor.
