About This Show

Victory Gardens presents the Midwest premiere of John Belluso’s Pyretown, a politically charged play fueled by smoldering personal dramas which expose the struggles, complexities and frustrations with managed health care in America today.

Pyretown introduces three characters whose lives and daily challenges are not far from many people’s reality. A single mother of three is frustrated by the interminable wait at the hospital emergency room, just to get her daughter’s ear infection treated. A young man in a wheelchair becomes her confidant – and more – as they attempt to navigate a tangled health care
system together. A physician attempts to work within the system, trying to
strike a balance between compassion and professional responsibility. In
sum, Pyretown is a contemporary love story with characters forced to break through barriers, look a stranger in the eye and learn the art of mercy.
