About This Show

Irish Repertory presents the Chicago premiere of Brian Friel?s Making History. This 1988 historical drama follows Hugh O?Neill, the 16th century Gaelic chieftain largely responsible for the disastrous Battle of Kinsale, when native Gaels and their Spanish cohorts were routed by the English. This decisive battle effectively began total British domination of Ireland, ending the centuries-old native chieftain rule. O?Neill is torn between two worlds ? that of his ancestors and the emerging British Empire ? in his political affiliations and in the relationship with his English wife.
