About This Show

The elegance and passion of Spain’s dance, music and culture is showcased in Ensemble Español’s 36th American Spanish Dance & Music Festival. The Festival begins with the newly named Duende Flamenco Music & Dance Concert at Northeastern Illinois University Auditorium.

The concert will begin with U.S. debut of “Seguiriya,” an excerpt from Flamenco A3, as performed by David Coria, principal dancer of the Rafaela Carrasco Flamenco Dance Company; Flavio Rodrigues, Flamenco guitarist and Ismael de la Rosa, Flamenco singer. Additional concert highlights include choreographer and guest artist Jose Barrios performing the U.S. premiere of his “Antes Que Amanezca” (2010) in the Solea por Bulerias Flamenco style; and the world premiere of “Prefacio,” a dramatic duet in the Flamenco Cana jondo style, performed by choreographers and Ensemble Español company principal dancers Claudia Pizarro and Jose Torres.
