Shakespeare’s Fools

About the Show

“Oh, what fools these mortals be!” No, it’s not A Midsummer Night’s Dream, but Shakespeare’s Fools does have some kind of connection to the Bard. A father and son travel throughout the “seven ages” of life’s journey in this performance by the Newman Players. What links these ages together are references to the fools from Shakespeare’s plays: Touchstone from As You Like It, Launcelot Gobbo and Old Gobbo from The Merchant of Venice, Valentine and Speed from Two Gentlemen of Verona, Feste from Twelfth Night, the fool from King Lear, the clown from All’s Well That Ends Well and the gravediggers from Hamlet. John Adams directs this producation as part of The Fringe: Toronto’s Theater Festival.
