When God Winked

About the Show

When God Winked, a solo play written and performed by American Book Award winner Ron Jones, eloquently depicts the final days of heaven.
In this universe, heaven is seen as “The San Francisco Recreation Center for the Handicapped” — a place Jones worked for 30 years. He adroitly brings to life a vibrant community inhabited by people like: Vanishing Man, the Pope of the Sunset, the Woman that speaks for God, Angels that speak in tongues, and Angels that offer a silent wisdom in a time of noise. These characters based on people Jones interacted with at The Center, are locked in a valiant struggle which promises freedom on the one hand and threatens religious zealotry on the other. Despite the prevailing conflict When God Winked is filled with humor and grace while delivering an insiders look at a little known world. In the process Jones renders an alarming picture of our countries attitude toward the disabled and disenfranchised.
