About This Show

Eastenders Repertory Company opens its 2000 season with eight short plays by some of the 20th century’s most influential European dramatists. Each of these plays reflects not only the times within which they were created, but also the social, political, and artistic consciousness of the playwrights. One Hundred Years of Euro-One-Acts is divided into three series, performed in rotating repertory:

Series A
In the Shadow of the Glen by John M. Synge, directed by Susan E. Evans
A conflict between a repressive life and the impulse to freedom
Chee-Chee by Luigi Pirandello, directed by Debbie Lynn Carriger
An ironic comedy of manners set in a first-class hotel in Rome
The Jewish Wife by Bertolt Brecht, directed by Charles E. Polly
A chilling portrait of life under the Nazi dictatorship

Series B
No Exit by Jean-Paul Sartre, directed by Charles E. Polly
A classic existential drama
The Virtuous Burglar by Dario Fo, directed by Robert Zick, Jr.
A farce lampooning bourgeois values

Series C
A Slight Ache by Harold Pinter, directed by Robert Zick, Jr.
A mysterious stranger enters into the lives of Flora and Edward
Rockaby by Samuel Beckett, directed by Craig Dickerson
An old woman in her rocking chair listens to her own thoughts
Blue Kettle by Caryl Churchill, directed by Susan E. Evans
A playful and unorthodox work about family disruption and reunion
