My Àntonia

Set in Nebraska in the 1880s, Willa Cather’s masterpiece becomes a boldly theatrical portrait of an immigrant girl whose passion and resilience define the pioneer spirit. Told through the eyes of American-born narrator Jim Burden, My Àntonia recounts the complex friendship between Jim and childhood acquaintance Àntonia, the daughter of ill-adapted Bohemian immigrants. Upon returning to his childhood home after a 20-year absence, Jim, now a successful New York lawyer, wistfully recalls their adolescence on the prairie, hoping to re-establish a connection with his past, and with Àntonia.
