continental drift features works from Arlene Biala’s poetry volume of the same title performed by the writer in collaboration with music by Jimmy Biala and his multi-disciplinary ensemble, Search 5 features saxophonist Bill Biala, electric bassist/ cedar flutist John-Carlos Perea and dancer Lenora Lee. Also featured will be a guest appearance by members of San Francisco-based Samba troupe, SambAsia. Arlene Biala’s stark, tender, sensual and political poetry explores stories of the generations who have left their native lands to live in America, particularly those from the islands of the Philippines. This performance goes beyond chronological storytelling into the dance of simultaneous experiences called forth by tragedy, family and love.
