A World Premiere Play by Kelly Masterson.
Truth. Visions. Blasphemy. Prophecy. Mitchell tells stories. True stories. But to his family, the nineteen-year-old boy has spent his life inventing fantasy to replace the severity of real life. When his latest “story” leaves him missing for over a week, his mother Alicia decides to “solve” Mitchell’s problems once and for all. Faced with an ex-husband too removed and an older, well-meaning son incapable of caring for his brother, Alicia seeks to check Mitchell into a mental hospital for evaluation. But when his visions prove more real than anyone imagined, a mother and hospital staff must choose between committing Mitchell or accepting the truth he professes. Throughout the process, memories of the past interweave with scenes of the current crisis, old family wounds are brought to the foreground, fundamental beliefs are challenged, emotions exhausted and the meaning of the “truth” is dissected.
