An Irish-American widower is faced with bringing up four daughters ages seven through seventeen. A believer in democracy and higher education, he runs his family on the parliamentary principle. When daughter Maggie wants to quit college to get married, he refuses permission so Maggie puts it before the family council where he loses. He rejects the council and kick’s Maggie’s suitor out of the house. The four daughters declare war on father-who finally surrenders to the marriage.
