Southern Girls shadows the experience of six childhood friends from the 1950s to their middle ages set in a small town outside of Birmingham, Alabama. Wanda-Sue, teeters between the world of her white half-sister, Charlotte, her white friends, Dolly and June-Adele, and her black friends, sisters Ruth and Naomi. As children the girls play together but as the years pass by their world changes when each woman’s dreams are strongly influenced and affected by the turbulent times in which they live.
