British Pantomime is an art form presented at Christmas time, usually opening on Boxing Day (December 26). In a tradition dating back to Shakespearean times, the panto is loosely based on a popular children’s story or fable. It’s a noisy, boisterous and sometimes outrageous entertainment with songs, corny jokes, colourful sets and costumes, and plenty of audience participation. The bawdy language is toned down for matinees, when children are encouraged to attend.
