She lost some weight. She lost her mind. She almost lost it all.
Hip Bones and Cool Whip is Rochelle Newman’s fiercely personal solo show about her youthful struggle with anorexia. This story about a young woman who takes dieting to obsessive extremes is delivered in a warm, humorous style that belies the play’s dark theme. A cast of characters that have colored Newman’s life, including a self-centered, overweight Jewish mother and a relentlessly manipulative inner voice, contribute to the protagonist’s tale of dysfunction. Carlos Carrasco directs.
