New York City
Edward II is a dark and violent character study of sexual and class politics. The king, forced by a rebellious gentry to deny his sexual identity, and motivated by his love for the despised and exiled Gaveston, seeks to balance his royal duties with his personal needs. The Kingdom dissolves into chaos, and characters are challenged to reconcile their idea of morality with self-perservation. Michael Michetti’s environmental staging of Bertolt Brecht’s play (adapted from the 1593 work by Christopher Marlowe) is presented by the multiple award-winning Circle X Theatre Company.
This production contains nudity, violence, and extremely adult situations.
