East 14th Street: True Tales of a Reluctant Player is a high-larious and moving autobiographical story that takes audiences on the bumpy ride through the wacky world of Don Reed. From goodie-goodie, straight-A student and God-fearing church-boy, Don’s poignant life goes inside the world of pimps, players, hustlers & streetwalkers in the crazy Oakland hood of the ’70s. Don wanted to be just like dear old Dad… too bad he didn’t know Dad was a pimp – he just thought he was really into hats. East 14th Street is a journey from one extreme to another and a chronicle of what happens when you go out of your way to be something you’re not.
Don Reed is a multi-talented stand-up comedian who has been described as a comedic Molotov-cocktail of characters, sound FX, dance and improvisation. His performance on a Robert Townsend HBO Special of up-and-coming comedians caught the attention of Bill Cosby, among others, and led to the creation of a guest-starring role for him on The Cosby Show. Early in his career, Don travelled the NACA college circuit, appearing at over 350 colleges, and did audience warm-up for several sitcoms. Since then, he has written, produced, and done voice-over work for several T.V. shows, including 24, Spiderman, Law & Order, Will & Grace, SNL, Scrubs, ER, The West Wing, and several others.
