Crime Scene!, the longest-running late-night theatrical entertainment in Los Angeles, ends five years of Saturday night 11 p.m. late shows at Sacred Fools Theater.
Over its extended run, the irreverent serialized comedy utilized several hundred actors as well as dozens of writers and directors. It achieved a loyal audience following, with some fans continuing to attend for years. The show spoofed mystery and crime genres particularly, and satirized all areas of popular culture as well as world events.
The series’ final storylines include:
“The Wench Upon The Stage,” written by Brenda Varda and directed by Amir Talai. A musical in verse, about the moment in 17th Century history when women were finally allowed to take their place on the stage…playing the female characters. “Finally! The Wench upon the stage will be a wench!”
“Maximum Goldie 3: The End Of The World,” written and directed by Bob DeRosa. A popular Crime Scene character returns, as the assassin/magician’s assistant/porn star from the future walks straight into the mouth of madness.
“Fire Walk With David Lynch’s Cherry Hills,” written by Jaime L. Robledo and directed by Brad Friedman. Two women…one life…twin peeks at something. As confusing as the movie and TV show it parodies, but that’s part of the fun.
“Urgent and Confidential: Dean Cameron’s Nigerian Spam Scam Scam,” written by Dean Cameron and Ibraham Abacha, directed by Paul Provenza. It’s been described as a true life tale too unbelievable not to be true. He who gets the last laugh may still not receive the transfer of $126,000,000. Cameron was a series regular on the recent “Mister Sterling” and starred in several films including “Ski School.” Provenza was the lead on the TV series “Northern Exposure” in the latter part of its run.
Continuing a tradition, the final weeks will feature appearances by surprise guests.
