Anthony Williams's Urban Nutcracker is a celebration of the holiday classic but with an inner-city edge. Set in contemporary Boston, it presents a multicultural interpretation of the 19th century fairy tale fusing ballet, swing, hip-hop, and urban tap with the classical score of Tchaikovsky and the pulsating beat of Duke Ellington. Urban Nutcracker features flamenco star Isaac de Los Reyes, from Madrid, Spain and tap choreographer Khalid Hill, well-known for his role in Savion Glover's Broadway smash Bring in 'Da Noise, Bring in 'Da Funk. Michael Shannon and Yoel Cassell return once again to thrill audiences in their beloved roles of Drosselmeyer and Minimeyer. Families are invited to revel in this magical holiday performance that includes over 50 Boston area children. Proceeds go in support of BalletRox, one of Boston's premier non-profit dance programs for underserved youth.
