About this show

Gurnet Theatre Project presents the Boston area premiere of Bert V. Royal's hilarious dark comedy Dog Sees God: Confessions of a Teenage Blockhead, directed by Brian C. Fahey. In this "unauthorized parody," the kids from the most popular comic strip of our time have finally come out of their shells, and America's favorite blockhead is all grown up. In Dog Sees God CB's beloved beagle has terminal rabies, and his world is inhabited by a comic strip parade of misfits: a missing pen pal, an abused pianist, a pyromaniac ex-girlfriend, two drunk cheerleaders, a homophobic/germ phobic quarterback, a burnt out Buddhist, and a drama-queen sister. When CB begins to question the existence of an afterlife, his friends can't provide him with any solace. But a chance encounter with an artistic, bullied teenager brings CB a new peace of mind, and sets in motion a friendship that will push teen angst to the very limits. Drug use, suicide, eating disorders, teen violence, rebellion and sexual identity collide and careen toward an ending that's both haunting and hopeful. Good Grief!
