About This Show

British director, translator, and novelist Neil Bartlett joins us in March to stage Christopher Marlowe’s vision of the tragic infatuation of Dido, Queen of Carthage, for the Trojan hero Aeneas. In Marlowe’s hands, the noble classical legend becomes a lush chamber opera for the spoken voice, rich in arias of longing, ambition, and rage. With live baroque music and a lavish physical production, Dido invokes a theatre whose only rule is beauty, a world whose only law is desire.
