This year the African American Theatre Festival will feature works by Robert Johnson, Lillian Hellman, and Jacqui Parker. Mother G by Robert Johnson, set in a Black Baptist Church in 1963, is the story of choir director Hazel, who is ultimately seduced and betrayed by the charismatic Reverend Mercy. Recommended for ages 12 and older. May 27, 28 and June 3, 4 @ 7:30 pm May 29, 30 and June 5 @ 8 PM May 31 @ 3 PM The Children's Hour by Lillian Hellman about two women who run a school for girls, and the tragedy that befalls them after a malicious youngster starts a rumor, and the rumor soon turns to scandal. Recommended for ages 10 and older. June 6, 13 @ 8 pm June 7 @ 3 pm June 10, 11 @ 7:30 pm Feathers on my Arms & Bess The Brave, two one-act plays by Jacqui Parker presented together. Feathers On My Arms is the story of young Zora Neale Hurston and her amazing imagination. Bess the Brave is the story of young Bessie Colman, the first African American female pilot, and her struggles as a woman and African American to achieve her dream to fly. Recommended for ages 10 and older. June 12 @ 8 pm June 13 @ 4 pm
