Three-Show Cole Porter Series Announced for York Theatre Company
The 2019 fall Musicals in Mufti series will feature three musicals from the legendary composer.
The York Theatre Company has announced that the 2019 fall Musicals in Mufti series will celebrate the music and lyrics of Cole Porter. The series will run September 28-November 3.
Three musicals will be featured in the series. First will be Fifty Million Frenchmen (1929), which features music and lyrics by Porter and a book by Herbert Fields. The 2019 Mufti production will be directed by Hans Friedrichs, and will run September 29-October 6. Second will be The Decline and Fall of the Entire World as Seen Through the Eyes of Cole Porter, the Porter musical revue originally created by Ben Bagley in 1965; Pamela Hunt will direct, and performances will run October 13-20. Lastly, Pamela Hattie will run October 27-November 3, led by director Michael Montel. The musical was originally produced in 1940, and features music and lyrics by Porter, and a book by Herbert Fields and B.G. DeSylva.
This will be the 26th year that York Theatre Company presents Musicals in Mufti, a series of musicals performed as book-in-hand concerts; "mufti" means "in street clothes, without the trappings associated with full production." James Morgan is the artistic director of the York Theatre Company.
