Tony Award Winner Rupert Holmes' A Time to Kill Has Broadway Ambitions
The new play will be produced by Daryl Roth and Eva Price.
A Time to Kill, a new play by Tony Award winner Rupert Holmes (The Mystery of Edwin Drood), is set to come to Broadway this October, an equity casting notice would suggest. The work, which had its world premiere in May 2011 at Arena Stage, is based on the novel of the same name by popular crime-fiction author John Grisham.
The story's plot follows the aftermath of the brutal rape and beating of Tonya Hailey, a 10-year-old African-American girl in mid-1980s Mississippi, by two white racists. While her case is heard in court, the town is in an uproar, with tempers hot and the Klan burning crosses.
Daryl Roth and Eva Price will produce the upcoming New York production. Ethan McSweeny (Gore Vidal's The Best Man) will direct.
No official announcement about the production's Broadway run has been made.
