Satchmo at the Waldorf, Terry Teachout's drama about the life of jazz legend Louis Armstrong, officially opened off-Broadway on March 4. Directed by Gordon Edelstein at the Westside Theatre, the play stars John Douglas Thompson as an elderly Armstrong who recounts his career and the experiences that led him to the Waldorf Astoria Hotel, where he played his final shows in 1971. The show comes to New York following successful regional runs at Shakespeare and Company and the Long Wharf Theatre.
