Once Announces New Casting
Ben Hope, Laura Dreyfuss, Carlos Valdes, and Claire Wellin will replace original cast members of Broadway's Tony- and Grammy-winning Once.
Original cast members of the 2012 Tony Award Winner for Best Musical, Once, will play their last performance with the show on Sunday, March 24. Tony Award winner Steve Kazee, Tony Award nominee Cristin Milioti, Tony Award nominee Elizabeth A. Davis, and Will Connolly will be replaced by four new performers beginning Tuesday, March 26.
Ben Hope (Buddy: The Buddy Holly Story), who has been with the cast since March 2012, will replace Kazee as "Guy" opposite Laura Dreyfuss (Hair), replacing Milioti as "Girl," who has been with the cast since September 2012. Jersey Boys tour member Carlos Valdez will replace Connolly as "Andrej" while Claire Wellin (Eastland: An Original Musical) will take over Davis' role of "Reza." Also in the company are David Abeles, David Patrick Kelly, Jillian Lebling, Eliza Holland Madore, Anne L. Nathan, Lucas Papaelias, Andy Taylor, Carlos Valdes, Erikka Walsh, Claire Wellin, Paul Whitty, and J. Michael Zygo.
Based on the 2007 Academy Award-winning film, Once won eight 2012 Tony Awards including Best Musical, and the 2013 Grammy Award for Best Musical Theater Album. The musical features a book by award-winning Irish playwright and screenwriter Enda Walsh (Penelope), Academy Award-winning music and lyrics by Glen Hansard and Markéta Irglová, direction by the John Tiffany (Black Watch), movement by Steven Hoggett (American Idiot) and music supervision and orchestrations by Martin Lowe (Mamma Mia!). The creative team also includes set and costume design by six-time Tony Award winner Bob Crowley (Mary Poppins), lighting design by three-time Tony Award winner Natasha Katz (Aida), and sound design by Clive Goodwin.
