Norm Lewis Takes His Bow as the First African-American Actor in the Title Role of Broadway's The Phantom of the Opera
Composer Andrew Lloyd Webber was on hand to help welcome Lewis and Sierra Boggess to the Majestic Theatre.
Norm Lewis made Broadway history on Monday, May 12, when he became the first African-American actor to take on the role of the Phantom in Andrew Lloyd Webber's The Phantom of the Opera at the Majestic Theatre. Lewis entered the production with his former Little Mermaid costar Sierra Boggess, who returned to the role of Christine at the same performance. Lord Lloyd Webber was on hand to welcome them to the Majestic, and the trio posed for in-costume photos following the show. Check them out in the gallery below.
