Motown The Musical Selects the First National Tour's Berry Gordy and Diana Ross
Clifton Oliver and Allison Semmes will portray the legendary Motown couple in performances across the country.
Clifton Oliver and Allison Semmes have been cast in the leading roles of Berry Gordy and Diana Ross for the first national tour of Motown The Musical. The tour begins performances April 22 at the Oriental Theatre in Chicago.
Oliver's previous Broadway credits include the role of Simba in The Lion King, Benny opposite Jordin Sparks in In the Heights, and Fiyero in Wicked. He has also performed in the national tours of The Lion King, Rent, and Ragtime. Semmes appeared in the Broadway production of Motown The Musical as Florence Ballard and has served as an understudy and swing in the Broadway cast of The Book of Mormon.
Filled with songs from the legendary Motown songbook, the musical tracks Gordy's journey through his career, his marriage to the great Diana Ross, and his impact on the careers of music icons like Michael Jackson, Smokey Robinson, Stevie Wonder, Marvin Gaye, and many more. The production is directed by Charles Randolph-Wright and features a book penned by Gordy himself.
