Metropolitan Room Looks for a Guinness World Record This New Year's
The cabaret venue will host a 60-hour Marathon Variety Show to ring in 2015.
New York's Metropolitan Room will celebrate the new year with a three-day Marathon Variety Show. The continuous 60 hours of entertainment will stretch from Thursday, January 1, through Sunday, January 4, 2015.
The marathon performance, which is eligible to become a Guinness World Records record-holder for longest variety show ever, will feature up to 100 Metropolitan Room artists including comedians, magicians, novelty performers, and masters of ceremony. Complimentary breakfast will be served on Saturday and Sunday mornings.
On Friday and Saturday, cabaret star Marilyn Maye will return with her fourth annual By Request holiday party-show, coming on the heels of her back-to-back New Year's Eve shows. Joining Maye onstage will be pianist and conductor Billy Stritch, bassist Tom Hubbard, and drummer Ray Marchica.
"Having Marilyn smack in the middle of this three-day variety show signals that this marathon is much more than an endurance test," said Bernie Furshpan, the Metropolitan Room's managing partner. "We are going to celebrate the range of shows at the Metropolitan Room and program the best and most original. It's this impressive mix that makes our club truly one of a kind."
