Will Helen Mirren Bring Her Queen Elizabeth to Broadway in 2015?
Mirren is expected to star in the New York transfer of Peter Morgan's drama ''The Audience''.
London's Daily Mail reports that Academy Award winner Helen Mirren will star as Queen Elizabeth in the 2015 Broadway transfer of Peter Morgan's drama The Audience.
Mirren told the paper that the fact-based play would begin performances in February, with opening night set for March. Mirren first played the role on London's West End in 2013.
The Audience explores the reign of Queen Elizabeth II from 1952 to 2012 through her weekly meetings with England's prime ministers. Morgan also wrote the screenplay for the 2006 film The Queen, which starred Mirren. She earned an Oscar for her performance.
Mirren was last seen on Broadway in 2002 in Dance of Death, for which she received a Tony nomination. Mirren's first Tony nod came in 1995 for her Broadway debut in A Month in the Country.
No official information about the Broadway transfer of The Audience has yet been announced.
