Greta Gerwig Replaces Maggie Gyllenhaal in MCC's The Village Bike
Gyllenhaal withdrew from the off-Broadway production in February because of scheduling conflicts.
MCC Theater has announced that Greta Gerwig will replace the previously announced Maggie Gyllenhaal as Becky, a married, pregnant, and sexually adventurous schoolteacher, in the company's upcoming production of Penelope Skinner's The Village Bike.
Gyllenhaal withdrew from the production because of scheduling conflicts after it was announced that she will make her Broadway debut this October in Tom Stoppard's The Real Thing. Both the Broadway production and MCC's The Village Bike will be directed by Sam Gold.
Gerwig, best known for her indie-film roles in Frances Ha and Greenberg, will appear opposite Al Pacino in Barry Levinson's forthcoming adaptation of Philip Roth's novel The Humbling. She has also signed on to star in the pilot for How I Met Your Dad, a spinoff series based on the popular CBS sitcom How I Met Your Mother, which recently concluded its nine-year run.
The Village Bike will begin previews May 22 in advance of a June 10 opening at the Lucille Lortel Theatre.
