So You Think You Can Dance Offers a Major Broadway Opportunity
The show's next winner will get to bust a move in On the Town.
This season's winner of the long-running Fox series So You Think You Can Dance will be offered the opportunity to join the ensemble of the upcoming Broadway revival of On the Town in spring 2015.
The reality competition program, now in its 11th season, will spotlight the musical on July 9, when On the Town choreographer Joshua Bergasse stages a performance of the show's iconic opening number, "New York, New York," featuring the top 20 finalists.
Directed by John Rando, On the Town will star Tony Yazbeck, Jay Armstrong Johnson, Clyde Alves, Alysha Umphress, Elizabeth Stanley, and Megan Fairchild in the principal roles. Additional casting will be announced in the coming weeks. The musical begins performances at Broadway's Lyric Theatre on September 20.
Created by the legendary creative team of Leonard Bernstein, Betty Comden, Adolph Green, and Jerome Robbins, On the Town writes a musical love letter to New York City. Yazbeck, Johnson, Alves, Umphress, and Stanley reprise the roles they performed in last summer's Barrington Stage Company production, which was also helmed by Rando.
