Broadway's After Midnight Will Close
The new musical won the 2014 Tony Award for Best Choreography.
After Midnight, the 2014 Tony Award winner for Best Choreography, will play its final performance on Sunday, June 29, at the Brooks Atkinson Theatre. At the time of its closing, After Midnight will have played 19 previews and 272 performances. Conceived by Jack Viertel and directed and choreographed by Warren Carlyle, After Midnight opened on Sunday, November 3, 2013.
Music legend Patti LaBelle has joined the roster of the musical's "Special Guest Star" vocalists, and will continue through the show's closing.
After Midnight was nominated for seven 2014 Tony Awards, winning for Carlyle's choreography. The show is also the winner of two 2014 Drama Desk Awards (Outstanding Choreography and Outstanding Revue), four 2014 Astaire Awards, and the 2014 Outer Critics Circle Award for Best Choreography.
After Midnight, a retrospective of Duke Ellington's years at Harlem's famed Cotton Club, features musical direction by Wynton Marsalis and musical supervision by Daryl Waters. The design team includes Isabel Toledo (costumes) and Ruben Toledo, Tony Award winners John Lee Beatty (set design) and Howell Binkley (lighting design), and Peter Hylenski (sound). The show first began at New York City Center under the title Cotton Club Parade.
