The 5 Worst Fathers Currently on Broadway
If you think you have daddy issues, be glad you didn't have one of these histrionic papas.
Dads, amirite? They could go one of two ways: either worry way too much, like Billy Bigelow in Carousel, or just be totally awful…also sort of like Billy Bigelow in Carousel. If you've got one who's decidedly in the middle of those two options, one whose amount of anger and worry is justified, you're probably very lucky. Here are 5 that don't have parenting quite so in the bag.
1. Mr. Wormwood — Matilda The Musical
If you want a dad who you can sit around and watch television with all day, Mr. Wormwood is the guy for you. If you want someone who cares about you and your feelings and actually, you know, loves you, maybe not.
2. Elphaba and Nessarose's Father — Wicked
Elphaba's father blames his poor green daughter for the death of her mother, who died during birth of Elphie's sister, Nessarose. Little harsh.
3. Thénardier — Les Misérables
What kind of father could be so oblivious that he would lead a gang to attack his daughter in the street because he didn't recognize her? A bad one. Like Thénardier.
4. Simon — Kinky Boots
How could a father possibly disown his child, as Simon Sr. does to his son — especially one who eventually becomes the fabulous drag queen Lola? That's the sobering question posed in Kinky Boots.
5. Sam, Bill, and Harry — Mamma Mia!
To be fair, it wasn't exclusively Sam, Bill, and Harry's fault that they spent two decades not knowing they had a daughter.
